Various methods are available \u2014 from air and surface samples to qPCR and culture methods. Depending on the time and budget available, an accurate picture can sometimes be obtained within a few days. Together with its partners, Inducoat advises on the most suitable method.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The most common testing methods<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Air samples<\/strong> \u2014 measure the concentration of mould spores in the air using an air pump and a medium (Petri dish or filter cassette), which is analysed in the laboratory.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Surface samples<\/strong> \u2014 use sterile swabs or sample containers at locations where mould growth is suspected; laboratory analysis determines presence and quantity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>qPCR (quantitative PCR)<\/strong> \u2014 a molecular technique that measures the amount of DNA from specific mould species; fast and useful for detecting specific species.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Culture methods<\/strong> \u2014 mould samples are grown on culture media (agar plates); a traditional method that provides detailed information about the species present.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hybrid methods<\/strong> \u2014 a combination (e.g. qPCR + culture) provides a more complete picture of concentrations and species.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Choosing the right method<\/h2>\n<p>The choice depends on the objective, budget and specific conditions in the space.
