Sometimes the cause of mould is clear but cannot be eliminated immediately \u2014 such as a ventilation problem, thermal bridge or leak that cannot be repaired straight away. A paint or coating system does not solve that cause, but a dry paint film that is resistant to mould can play a relevant role as part of a broader maintenance approach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why use a mould-resistant paint system?<\/h2>\n

Rooms subject to persistent moisture loads require a finish that is technically suitable for the conditions. The added value does not lie in a broad claim that mould in the room is prevented or combated, but in the property of the finishing layer itself: a dry paint film that is resistant to mould contributes to a more durable finish on walls and ceilings and copes well with condensation, cleaning and daily use.<\/p>\n

No substitute for tackling the source<\/h2>\n

A mould-resistant paint system is not a substitute for ventilation, repairing leaks, building modifications or correct use. The cause usually lies in moisture loads, condensation or thermal bridges. Therefore, view the paint as an additional measure within a broader approach \u2014 a mould-resistant finish, not a complete solution. Relevant in moisture-sensitive rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens, sanitary areas, storage rooms, basements and laundry rooms.<\/p>\n

How do you select and apply a system?<\/h2>\n

Do not consider only commercial terms, but also the technical positioning: what exactly is claimed (the room or the paint film?), whether the product is suitable for the substrate, which application instructions apply and how it behaves under damp conditions. Technical data sheets and substrate advice provide more guidance than marketing language. During application, the following still applies: assess the substrate and the cause, clean and prepare, repair damage, apply the system in accordance with the product data sheet, and keep the ventilation in use. Moisture remains the decisive factor.<\/p>\n
