Oak wood is known for its robust and elegant appearance, but it is not immune to the elements. Rain, UV radiation and pollution can damage the wood, causing it to age faster and retain moisture.
OakProtect is a water-based combination of linseed oil and plant-based wax emulsion for untreated oak. The product provides a matt, rustic and water-repellent finish, allows the wood to breathe and protects against green growth and air pollution. The wood turns slightly grey over the years.
Pre-treatment and protection of oak
The substrate must be untreated, clean, and sanded with grit 120. On old wood, carefully remove existing layers.
OakProtect is applied undiluted with a brush or roller. Periodic maintenance is still required; re-treat when water repellency decreases.
- For untreated oak – Apply to cleaned and sanded wood (grit 120).
- Mat, rustic finish – the wood may turn slightly grey over the years.
- Water-repellent and breathable – allows the wood to breathe.
- Periodic maintenance – re-treat when water repellency decreases.
Applying and maintaining OakProtect
Stir OakProtect very thoroughly before and regularly during use. Apply the product undiluted with a brush or roller to untreated, cleaned oak sanded with 120-grit abrasive. Apply at least two coats; apply the second coat after 24 hours. Re-treat when water repellency decreases; the PDS advises maintaining exterior wood approximately every three years.
