Inducoat Ecological Mission
Inducoat's mission focuses on providing an additional line of defence for biosafety through mould-resistant, algae-resistant and bacteria-resistant coatings whose biological protection applies to the dry paint film and which are easy to apply and environmentally responsible. We aim to provide sustainable and cost-effective solutions that are easy to apply in challenging environments, and to support our customers worldwide through a network of international distributors.
Inducoat Ecological is a separate impregnation line for wood, stone and concrete. Current product information describes this line as water-based, non-film-forming and vapour-permeable.
About Inducoat Ecological
Inducoat Ecological is Inducoat B.V.'s 100% green label. From its origins, Inducoat B.V. has been a Dutch company focused on developing and manufacturing specialised coatings with a biologically resistant dry paint film – including algae-resistant variants. However, a growing group of customers asked for non-film-forming, fully breathable surface protection. After many years of development work, a plant-based wax impregnation that is completely solvent-free – a genuine natural product – was developed in collaboration with Avalo BVBA.

Inducoat milestones
Company founded
Inducoat was founded in 2007 and began its journey as a manufacturer of specialised coatings with a biologically resistant dry paint film. This allowed Ronald Frankhuizen to make full use of his extensive knowledge as a paint technician – adding relevant value to a relatively simple coating was his passion.
Product development
Inducoat developed innovative coating technologies, including mould-resistant, bacteria-resistant and algae-resistant coatings. From the very start, our commitment focused on ecology. Various research programmes are under way in which we look at innovative antimicrobial techniques, as well as the ecological credentials of the coatings. Bio-based, for example.
Bio-based is a research theme here and not a general composition claim for the Ecological line.
Market expansion
Inducoat was the first to bring this type of coating to market and successfully expanded its market presence by supplying coatings to various industries, such as construction, healthcare, the food industry and housing associations. This takes time in a traditional market. That makes us all the prouder of the use of our coatings, for example at ABBOTT Zwolle and CARGILL.
Research and development
Inducoat invested in ongoing research and development to improve its coating formulations and performance characteristics and meet the changing demands of industry. Sustainability is the number one priority here too. Our outdoor algae line is particularly notable, as it is completely natural.

Partnerships and collaborations
Inducoat entered into partnerships and collaborations with other companies, organisations and research institutions to advance coating technologies and explore new applications. We were therefore very pleased with the TNO Seed Layer Test, which was the first to make the effect of our coating visible. More recently, we entered into a partnership with Professor Jonas Lindegaard, who is bringing his qPCR for mould growth to the Dutch market with us. This is how we are moving from paint to data.
Customer satisfaction
Inducoat has obtained relevant certifications and complies with industry standards to ensure the quality and safety of its coatings. It was very special that we were the first to receive an authorisation number for our products, enabling us to raise the standard for antimicrobial coatings even further.
A historical authorisation number is not a current or range-wide claim: its validity and scope must be checked for each product and application.
Sustainability initiatives
Inducoat has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by developing environmentally friendly coatings with a reduced environmental impact and promoting responsible production practices. It aims to become a B Corp, and the HorsemenCare initiative in particular has a significant impact.
A lower environmental impact is only substantiated on a product-specific basis.
Awards and recognition
Inducoat received recognition for its achievements in the coatings industry, including awards for product innovation, environmental management and social innovation. We consider that last aspect particularly important: there is a place for everyone at Inducoat. From former offenders to people who face barriers to employment. We always build a bridge.
Continued growth
Inducoat experienced steady growth, expanded its customer base and product range, and built a strong reputation as a reliable coatings supplier. In 2018, AkzoNobel decided to equip its Sikkens Service Centers with Inducoat. That step marks the power of collaboration in our industry. The respect for our specialism, combined with our admiration for Sikkens' impressive market strength, remains wonderful to experience to this day.
