Inducoat: also resistant to green growth
Green growth? Inducoat’s algae-resistant system has two product lines:
- Algae-resistant painting – for example, keeping a white facade white for longer.
- Algae-resistant impregnation – for example, impregnating an unprotected facade.
For that second category, Inducoat has Inducoat Ecological developed: a plant-based wax impregnation product line for wood, natural stone and concrete.
Green build-up and moss?
A white exterior wall on the north side is naturally more susceptible to green algae and moss growth: less sunlight, and the surface stays wet for longer. Do you want a facade to retain its original white appearance for longer, without periodic use of aggressive or expensive algae removers? Then Inducoat Algae the façade coating within the algae-resistant system. Naturally available in all colours.
The paint is applied like any high-quality facade coating. The distinction lies in the formulation: the dry paint film is resistant to algae and moss growth over the long term, allowing the façade to remain clean and colour-stable for years. Always consult the product data sheet and safety data sheet before use.
Algae and moss grow primarily where it remains damp for a long time. In the Netherlands, precipitation falls on many days; persistently damp outdoor surfaces therefore remain a concern. If the issue is not algae but mould or bacteria, then view the mould-resistant system or the bacteria-resistant system.
Painting or impregnating: two routes within the algae-resistant system
Green growth is rarely just an aesthetic problem. Algae and moss retain moisture against the façade, and that moisture is exactly what you do not want there. Moreover, the growth simply returns after every cleaning, because the cause does not change: the façade faces north, or it dries slowly.
That is why the algae-resistant system offers two options. If the façade is painted or is it going to be painted, then finish off with Inducoat Algae: a façade coating whose dry paint film is protected against biological growth. Is the façade unprotected, such as brick, natural stone, concrete or wood, then impregnate it with Inducoat Ecological. This is non-film-forming: the product fills the pores and remains virtually invisible, so the material retains its own appearance.
For which substrate?
Within the impregnation line, there is a variant per substrate: StoneProtect for natural stone and patios, and specially suitable for bluestone; ConcreteProtect for all types of concrete; WoodProtect for exotic hardwoods such as bankirai and ipé; and OakProtect for untreated oak.
First clean the surface with high-pressure washing, steam or Inducoat Cleaner. The Cleaner itself does not need to be rinsed or wiped off. After at least 24 hours, remove residues of algae, moss and similar soiling by spraying or brushing them off. Allow the surface to dry and then apply at least two coats, spraying crosswise and back-rolling until the pores are full. Always consult the product data sheet and safety data sheet before use.
