Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) decided to paint its bathrooms with Inducoat Fungi, Inducoat’s mould-resistant paint. According to the original project description, there were three reasons for that choice:
- Mould prevention: LUMC wanted to prevent mould growth in the damp bathrooms as much as possible. The dry paint film of Inducoat Fungi is resistant to fungal attack and was therefore chosen as a mould-resistant finish.
- Infection prevention: infection prevention is very important in a medical environment. Mould can pose a risk, especially for patients with weakened immune systems. The choice of a mould-resistant finish was in keeping with LUMC’s broader hygiene and patient-safety approach.
- Hygiene and aesthetics: mould stains are unattractive and can leave a negative impression on patients, visitors and medical staff. Painting the bathrooms with Inducoat Fungi gives the surfaces a well-maintained, hygienic appearance that contributes to comfort and well-being in these rooms.
The use of Inducoat Fungi is a specific choice by LUMC and, according to the project description, is in accordance with its internal guidelines and protocols for mould-resistant finishes and infection prevention.
The mould-resistant property relates exclusively to protecting the dry paint film. The coating does not replace cleaning, disinfection or other infection-prevention measures.
