Abbott produces a wide range of milk products specially developed for infants, toddlers, children and adults with special nutritional needs. For example, Abbott produces infant formula for babies who are not breastfed or who need supplementary nutrition.
Hygiene plays an essential role in the production of infant formula. Because infants and young children are vulnerable, strict hygiene standards must be maintained to safeguard the safety and quality of infant formula. For this reason, Abbott Zwolle chose to apply Inducoat Bacteria as a bacteria-resistant finish.
According to the original project description, these coatings supported both product safety and cleaning procedures. Two principles were central:
Product safety: hygiene measures had to help keep the infant formula free from harmful micro-organisms and contaminants. Abbott applied Inducoat Bacteria as an additional material measure within this broader hygiene approach, with the aim of supporting product safety.
Cleaning procedures: according to the project description, the cleaning procedures were aligned with the additional value of the Inducoat Bacteria coating. Combining the coating with regular cleaning was described as additional support within the use of suitable cleaning agents and disinfectants.
Inducoat Bacteria protects only the dry paint film against bacterial attack. Regular cleaning and disinfection remain necessary in accordance with the applicable hygiene protocol.
By following strict hygiene measures, Abbott Zwolle ensures that the infant formula is safe for consumption and meets high quality standards. This helps minimise the risk of contamination and foodborne illness.
